"Big Red Roses"

"Big Red Roses" is one of my newest oil paintings completed in January of this year. There's a touching story behind this painting that I'd like to share: 

This big red (and white:) rose dress is a representation of a dress our oldest daughter had wanted for her elementary school Christmas singing program one year - For every program we would buy our children new outfits to wear, except for one particular year when my husband had changed positions within his company, taking a pay cut. 

One evening, weeks before the program, we needed to go to the store to buy some essentials. Knowing that we were going to the store, our daughter asked to look at the dresses for their Christmas program. I didn't have the heart to tell her that this year we wouldn't have the money to buy her and her sister new outfits (their little brother wasn't in school at this time).

Looking through the dresses our daughter fell in love with a beautiful dress that had "Big Red Roses" on it – Saying, “This is the one I want". Again, I didn't have the heart to tell her that we couldn't afford it. 

Home from the store, stepping on to our porch, we saw a note stuck to our front door from UPS stating that they had left a package for us with our neighbors. In wonder of what and who had sent us a package, we retrieved it from the neighbors. To our surprise, upon opening the box we pulled out 2 matching dresses with "Big Red Roses" on them!!, two pairs of tights and two pairs of dress shoes! - And, a toy for our son.

My first thought was, "Thank You Heavenly Father"!!! My sister who had moved to Florida had decided to send our children their Christmas presents early that year. She had not known of my husband’s job change or the decrease in our pay.

Our daughter was delighted with the pretty dress even though it wasn't the same one that she had picked out at the store.

“God is so Good” and He cares about what we care about - even the small things that we might not think that He would be concerned with.

I have many stories of God's goodness that He has bestowed upon us over the years. One of my main reasons for wanting a website, other than having a place to sell my art, was to be able to share God's goodness and love through telling these stories, linking them to my artwork.
